Will this GPU fit my PC? Power supply, case and CPU checklist
MegTech team · Updated
A GPU upgrade needs a suitable motherboard slot, enough case space, a compatible power supply and cables, and the right display connection. Check the exact board model, not just the GPU chip name, before ordering.
Power supply and connectors
Share the full PSU model and check the card manufacturer’s requirements for that exact board. Wattage printed on a label is not the only compatibility detail; required connectors and available cables matter too. Follow the PSU and GPU manuals rather than improvising adapters.
Partner cards can differ from reference specifications. NVIDIA’s RTX 3060 family page is an example of why the exact card and system requirements must be checked; its requirements are not universal for all GPUs.
Case and motherboard
Compare card length, height and occupied slots with your case and motherboard. Account for front fans, radiators, nearby expansion cards and cable space. Send the case model or clear measurements if you are unsure.
Confirm the appropriate motherboard slot and review the PC manufacturer’s restrictions, especially for compact or proprietary office PCs. Do not assume a physically similar connector proves compatibility.
CPU, screen and intended use
Tell us your CPU, RAM, main games, screen resolution and target frame rate. A GPU alone cannot guarantee performance: a CPU-heavy game or another system limitation can reduce the benefit of an upgrade.
Check your monitor’s input and the card’s outputs, including the connection needed for your target resolution and refresh rate. For creative software, also check supported GPU features and driver requirements.
Before fitting the card
Use the manufacturer’s installation instructions and power the PC down before hardware changes. Install the correct official driver for the GPU and operating system; AMD’s linked guide explains Radeon driver installation.
For a compatibility check, send MegTech the product link, CPU, PSU model, case model and monitor. If any detail is unknown, clarify it before ordering rather than guessing.
